Today’s project is a Flower Planter Box using Graphic 45 Typography paper.  I made a box and decorated with Typography paper and used some Tim Holtz pen nibs.  The flowers are made from the paper, the stem is wire, and the leafs I hand cut out.  I used Styrofoam for inside the box to hold up the flowers.

I am providing the tutorial for this Flower Planter Box below.
Cut out of Black chipboard:
(2) 6 x 4 3/4″ (front and back)
(2) 6 x 1 1/2″ (sides)
(1) 4 3/4 x 1 1/2″ (bottom)
Cut out of Black card stock:
(4) 6 x 1″
(2) 4 3/4 x 1″
(2) 1 1/2 x 1″
These are for the hinges.  Score in half long ways.
Add tape to the inside and taper corners.
Taper means to cut corners at an angle.
Take a side pieces (6 x 1 1/2″ chipboard) and
attach half a hinge piece (1 1/2 x 1″) to the
bottom.
Stand the piece straight up and slide under the bottom chipboard piece (4 3/4 x 1 1/2).

Repeat for all pieces.

Hold two panels up so they are barely touching.
Attach the long hinges (6 x 1) to each side.

For matting cut out of pattern paper:
(2) 4 5/8 x 5 3/4″ (front and back)
(2) 1 3/8 x 5 3/4″ (sides)
FLOWERS:
Cut out of pattern paper:
(8) 1 x 1 1/2″
(4) 3/4 x 1 1/4″
(4) 1/2 x 1
For smaller flower:
(8) 1 x 1 3/8″
(4) 3/4 x 1 1/8″
(4) 1/2 x 7/8
(You can make both flowers the same size
if you want)
To make petals, measure the bottom and mark 1/4″ in the center.  Cut from the top point to the mark to make an angle, repeat for other side.  Do this on all petals.

Punch a circle for your flower base. Mine is 1 1/2″.  Starting with the large petals first, attach the first 2 across from each other, then the next 2 across from each other.  Once all of them are attached, go to the next layer and place the petal across from each other and then do the smallest petals.

I attached buttons to the middle of my flowers.
Also, you may curve your petals, I curved the back ones backwards and the front ones forward.
Cut a wire 12″ and curve the top using pliers.
Depending on what you use for the center of your flower will make a difference on how you attach it to your wire.  I used a button and cut a small piece of wire, then put the wire through the button holes and the hole in the wire stem.  Then I folded down the wire with the pliers to hold it in place.  A brad would work great in the center of the flower.  You can glue the flower to the stem as well.
The leafs I cut out by hand and attached to the stem with glossy accents.

That’s it.

Close up of box.
